Gymnema sylvestre in Payarmin: how much can one mL hold?
Gymnema sylvestre is the eighth of 22 lines in Payarmin's 200 mg blend, so one 1 mL serving holds at most 25 mg of it, and likely less. Studies of gymnema extract used 200 to 400 mg a day, at least eight times that ceiling.

How much gymnema is in Payarmin?
Payarmin does not print its gymnema amount. The label lists "Gymnema Leaf Extract" eighth in a 200 mg blend, which caps it at 25 mg per 1 mL serving.
The cap comes from the label's own order. The blend runs from most to least by weight, so line k can weigh at most 200 divided by k. For line 8 that is 200 / 8 = 25 mg. The hidden amounts are allowed under 21 CFR 101.36 (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).
The real number can be far lower. An even split of all 22 lines would give 9.09 mg each. Two droppers a day would double any figure here, if one dropper is 1 mL, a size the label does not print.

| Label wording | Gymnema Leaf Extract |
|---|---|
| Place in blend | 8 of 22 |
| Amount printed | Not published |
| Most per 1 mL | 25 mg (200 / 8) |
| Most at 2 droppers | 50 mg, if a dropper is 1 mL |
| Even-split figure | 9.09 mg |
What is gymnema sylvestre?
Gymnema sylvestre is a woody vine from India and nearby regions. Its leaves are used in Ayurvedic tradition, where it is known as gurmar.
The leaf extract is the form on the Payarmin label. Studies often use an extract standardized to 25% gymnemic acids (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). The label prints no extract ratio, so we cannot tell what strength Payarmin uses.
One effect is well described: gymnema reduces how sweet things taste (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). Some people notice sugar tasting flat for a short time after the leaf touches the tongue. That is a taste effect, not proof of anything inside the body.
The Payarmin drops themselves are sweetened with stevia extract and xylitol. Glycerin, Water, Organic Lemon Extract, Stevia Extract 97% (Reb A), Xylitol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, and Natural Flavors
Against the research02
Is the gymnema dose in Payarmin close to what studies used?
No. Clinical studies of gymnema typically used 200 to 400 mg a day of extract, and Payarmin's ceiling is 25 mg per serving.
Other trials used 500 to 1,000 mg a day of leaf extract. The Drugs.com monograph also notes that robust clinical trials are still lacking (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph).
Take the best case. At the 25 mg ceiling, one dropper holds 12.5% of a 200 mg dose. At two droppers, 50 mg is 25% of it. At the 400 mg end, the same two droppers reach 12.5%.
| Case | Gymnema per day | Share of 200 mg |
|---|---|---|
| Even split, 1 dropper | 9.09 mg | about 4.5% |
| Ceiling, 1 dropper | 25 mg | 12.5% |
| Ceiling, 2 droppers | 50 mg | 25% |
| Studied low end | 200 mg | 100% |
| Studied high end | 400 mg | 200% |
Does gymnema help blood sugar?
The evidence is small and uneven. A 2021 meta-analysis of 10 studies with 419 people found a small drop in fasting glucose, but only against each person's own starting values (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph).
That design has no control group. The same analysis showed very high variation between studies, with I-squared of 80 to 99% (Devangan et al., Phytother Res 2021). High variation means the studies disagree with each other.
The NCCIH finds no reliable evidence that any herbal supplement controls diabetes (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements). The American Diabetes Association finds no supplement proven to lower glucose (ADA, Vitamins & Supplements).
The sales page frames the drops with phrases like "balanced blood sugar" and "insulin sensitivity". No trial of the product backs those words, and the gymnema dose is hidden.

See packsIs gymnema safe with diabetes medicine or the liver?
Gymnema can add to diabetes medicines, so a conversation with your prescriber comes first. A reversible liver injury linked to gymnema tea has also been reported (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph).
The liver case involved tea, not drops, and one case does not set a rate. It is still a reason to tell your doctor about all supplements, especially if you have liver disease.
Never stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. If you use insulin or a sulfonylurea, ask first, since lows can follow (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose).
Pregnant or nursing mothers and anyone under 18 should follow the label and ask a physician. Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement.
Where does gymnema fit in Payarmin's other 22 lines?
Gymnema is one of three glucose-themed plants in the blend, next to African mango and Panax ginseng.
Compare it with African mango at line 4 and Panax ginseng at line 12. For the whole panel, see all 23 label lines.

FAQ03
Gymnema sylvestre questions, answered
How many mg of gymnema are in Payarmin?
The label does not say. Gymnema is line 8 of 22 in a 200 mg blend, so one 1 mL serving holds at most 25 mg, and likely less. An even split would be 9.09 mg.
What dose of gymnema was used in studies?
Clinical studies typically used 200 to 400 mg a day of an extract standardized to 25% gymnemic acids. Some used 500 to 1,000 mg of leaf extract (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). Payarmin's ceiling per serving is well below those.
Does gymnema change how sugar tastes?
Yes. Gymnema reduces the perception of sweetness (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). The effect is on taste and usually short. It does not show that the herb changes blood sugar inside the body.
Can gymnema harm the liver?
A case of reversible liver injury linked to gymnema tea has been reported (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). It is one case, and not drops. Still, tell your doctor about any supplement if you have liver disease.
Why was gymnema's 2021 meta-analysis not strong proof?
The 10 studies compared people with their own baseline values, not a control group, and results varied a lot between studies (Devangan et al., Phytother Res 2021). That makes the small glucose drop hard to trust.
Is gymnema in Payarmin standardized to gymnemic acids?
We cannot tell. The label prints no extract-ratio footnote, only the words Gymnema Leaf Extract. Without a standard, the strength of a given dose is unknown.
Can I take gymnema with metformin?
Ask your prescriber or pharmacist first. Gymnema may add to glucose-lowering medicines (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). Keep taking your metformin as prescribed, and do not change it because of a supplement.
