Green tea and guarana in Payarmin: where the caffeine comes from

Quick answer

Green tea and guarana are the two caffeine sources in Payarmin's blend, at lines 7 and 3 of 22. The label prints no caffeine amount. One 1 mL serving holds at most 66.7 mg of guarana extract and 28.6 mg of green tea extract.

The ceilings01

How much green tea and guarana are in Payarmin?

Payarmin does not print either amount. Guarana seed extract is third in the 200 mg blend, so at most 66.7 mg per 1 mL serving, and green tea leaf extract is seventh, so at most 28.6 mg.

The ceilings follow the label order: 200 / 3 = 66.7 mg and 200 / 7 = 28.6 mg (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Together the two could weigh at most 95.3 mg, nearly half the blend, but only if everything below them were close to nothing. An even split would give each 9.09 mg.

At two droppers a day the ceilings double to 133.3 mg and 57.1 mg, if one dropper is 1 mL. How much a dropper holds is not on the label.

Does Payarmin have caffeine?

Yes, probably. Guarana seeds contain caffeine, and many of guarana's effects are attributed to it (MSKCC, Guarana). Green tea contains caffeine too (NCCIH, Green Tea).

How much, we cannot say. The label prints no caffeine amount, and the NIH notes that some guarana labels do not declare it (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). An extract weight of 66.7 mg does not tell you the caffeine inside it.

For scale, FDA has cited 400 mg of caffeine a day as an amount not generally linked to harm in most healthy adults. That is about two to three 12-oz cups of coffee (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?). We cannot place the drops on that scale without a caffeine figure.

What the missing number means

If you count your caffeine, treat Payarmin as an unknown on top of your coffee, tea and soda. Ask the order desk at BuyGoods order desk whether a caffeine figure exists.

When in the day should caffeine drops be taken?

Earlier is safer for sleep. The sales page suggests the morning before a meal, which also keeps caffeine away from bedtime.

  1. Morning

One dropper, after a shake. Caffeine from guarana and green tea arrives with the morning coffee, if you drink one.

  2. Midday

A second dropper, if you take two, adds more. Count your tea and cola before you decide.

  3. Evening

Skip the drops. Too much caffeine can bring a racing heartbeat, poor sleep, anxiety and shakiness (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?).

Ginseng, covered on its own page, can also disturb sleep (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng). The how to use page sets out a full day.

Against the research02

Is the green tea dose in Payarmin close to what studies used?

No. Weight studies of green tea gave 141 to 1,207 mg of catechins a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Payarmin's green tea ceiling is 28.6 mg of extract per serving, and that is extract weight, not catechins.

Even before counting catechin content, 28.6 mg is 20% of the lowest studied 141 mg. At two droppers, 57.1 mg is about 40%. The NIH adds that green tea extracts have been linked to liver damage (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).

Red bars: what one 1 mL serving can hold (double that at 2 droppers, if a dropper is 1 mL). The label prints only the chromium amount; for blend ingredients we show an even split (200 mg / 22, about 9.1 mg per mL) and the most the label order allows. Blue bars: daily amounts of that ingredient alone in studies; the light extension shows a range. Even the ceilings sit under the studied doses. An extract ratio, where a label prints one, describes how much plant went in, not how strong the extract is (Monagas et al., Front Pharmacol 2022).

What are the risks of green tea extract and guarana?

The main risks are caffeine effects and, rarely, liver injury. Liver injury has been reported mainly with green tea extracts in tablets or capsules, and it is uncommon (NCCIH, Green Tea).

Guarana's common side effects are nausea and insomnia. High doses can cause vomiting, heartbeat changes, high blood pressure and seizures, and it may add to blood thinners such as warfarin (MSKCC, Guarana). Whether Payarmin comes near a high dose is unknown, because the caffeine is not printed.

Green tea at high doses lowers blood levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea). People who are pregnant, nursing, or on certain medicines should ask a provider before caffeine (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?).

Keep taking prescribed medicine

Never stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. Tell your prescriber about every caffeine source you add.

Where do the caffeine lines sit among the other ingredients?

Guarana is the third line and green tea the seventh, so both rank high in the blend.

Check whether the fit check fits your caffeine habits, and read the side effects page for the other flags. The full list covers all 23 lines.

FAQ03

Green tea and guarana questions, answered

How much caffeine is in Payarmin?

The label does not print a caffeine amount. Guarana and green tea are the sources, at lines 3 and 7 of the 200 mg blend. The ceilings are 66.7 mg and 28.6 mg of extract per mL, not of caffeine.

Is guarana the same as caffeine?

No, but guarana seeds contain caffeine, and many of their effects are attributed to it (MSKCC, Guarana). Because guarana labels often skip the caffeine figure (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss), the amount in the extract is unknown.

How much caffeine is too much in a day?

FDA has cited 400 mg a day, about two to three 12-oz cups of coffee, as an amount not generally linked to harm in most healthy adults (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?). Pregnancy and some medicines call for lower limits.

Can green tea extract hurt the liver?

Rarely. Liver injury has been reported in some people using green tea products, mostly extracts in tablets or capsules, and it is uncommon (NCCIH, Green Tea). Stop and call a doctor if you notice yellow skin or dark urine.

Does green tea interact with any medicines?

It can. At high doses green tea lowers blood levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea). Guarana may add to warfarin (MSKCC, Guarana). Ask your pharmacist about your specific medicines.

Should I avoid Payarmin if I am sensitive to caffeine?

Be careful. The caffeine amount is unknown, and guarana can cause nausea and insomnia (MSKCC, Guarana). Try a low dose in the morning only after you ask your doctor, or skip it.
