Xylitol and Dogs: Why a Bottle of Payarmin Drops Needs a High Shelf
Xylitol and dogs are a dangerous pairing. Xylitol can cause a rapid, dangerous drop in a dog's blood sugar within 10 to 60 minutes of eating it. Payarmin's label lists xylitol under other ingredients, so the bottle and any spills must stay out of a dog's reach.

Why is xylitol dangerous to dogs?
It can cause a rapid, dangerous drop in a dog's blood sugar. FDA says this can happen within 10 to 60 minutes of eating it (FDA, Paws Off Xylitol).
In people, xylitol does not stimulate insulin release from the pancreas. That is why a sweetener fine for a person can be a poison for a dog.
| Stage | Signs |
|---|---|
| Early | Vomiting, weakness |
| Developing | Stumbling |
| Severe | Collapse, seizures |
Does Payarmin contain xylitol?
Yes. The label's other ingredients are glycerin, water, organic lemon extract, stevia extract 97% (Reb A), xylitol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid and natural flavors.
No xylitol amount is printed. The Supplement Facts panel covers chromium and the 22-line blend only.
Because the label gives no figure, you cannot judge how much a dog would take from a lick or a bottle. Treat any contact as a possible exposure.
How should you store Payarmin with a dog at home?
High, closed and away from the counter edge. The label already says to keep it out of the reach of children, and the same rule covers pets.
Pick a closed cabinet
A shelf a dog cannot jump to is not enough if the bottle can be knocked down.
Wipe spills
A dropped drop on a floor or hand can be licked.
Recap after every use
Keep the dropper top on and the safety seal intact until first use.
The label also asks you to keep it away from heat, light and humidity. See the side effects page for the wider list.

Contact a vet or animal poison control right away. FDA advises acting at once if a dog may have eaten a xylitol product (FDA, Paws Off Xylitol).
Signs can start within 10 minutes. Have the bottle and the label with you when you call.

FAQ01
More about xylitol and pets
How fast does xylitol affect a dog?
FDA says blood sugar can drop within 10 to 60 minutes of eating xylitol. That is quick enough that waiting for signs is a risk. Call a vet or animal poison control as soon as you suspect a dog got into it.
Is the xylitol in Payarmin enough to hurt a dog?
The label gives no xylitol amount, so we cannot say. Because FDA treats xylitol as dangerous to dogs, any exposure should be handled as an emergency call to a vet.
Is xylitol safe for people?
In people, xylitol does not stimulate insulin release from the pancreas, per FDA. This is a statement about the sweetener, not a claim that Payarmin affects blood sugar in any way.
